On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Tiko Sub-Division celebrated the inauguration of a new building dedicated to the Girls and Women Safe Space in Mudeka Village. The ceremony was attended by officials from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Fourth Deputy Mayor Waindim Rudolf, the representative of the Regional Delegate for Women’s Empowerment and the Family in the Southwest, traditional authorities, and local residents.
This initiative, spearheaded by Mayor HRH Peter Ikome Mesoso III in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development, aims to empower women and girls in the Mongo Area. The safe space is designed to provide a supportive environment where women and girls can access resources, gain skills, and connect with one another.
To ensure effective management of the center, a ten-member management committee has been established. This committee will oversee the operations and activities of the safe space, fostering a sense of community and support for its users.
The inauguration marks a significant step toward promoting gender equality and enhancing the welfare of women and girls in the region, providing them with the tools they need to thrive.
